Your First Med Spa Visit in Carlsbad: What a Free Full Face Consultation Covers

By The Babe Den Med Spa6 min read

If you have been curious about Botox, filler or collagen treatments but are not sure where to begin, a med spa consultation in Carlsbad is the easiest, lowest-pressure first step. At The Babe Den, your first visit is a free, 30-minute Full Face Consultation with Kirstin Vail, RN, in one private suite in Carlsbad Village. This guide walks through what happens in that half hour, what to bring, which questions are worth asking and what comes next, whether you decide to book a treatment, wait a while or simply leave better informed.

Why start with a med spa consultation in Carlsbad?

Most people arrive with a specific idea: “I think I need Botox for my forehead,” or “I want a little more in my lips.” Sometimes that is exactly right. Often, though, what bothers you in the mirror has more than one cause. A line between the brows might come from muscle movement, from skin that has lost some of its bounce, or from both. A tired look might be about volume, texture or simply the way light falls on the mid-face.

A consultation gives you time to sort that out with a licensed injector before you spend anything. You see your face through the eyes of someone who assesses faces every day, you learn which of your concerns each treatment can and cannot address, and you get real prices instead of guesses. It is also the moment to decide whether you are comfortable with the person who would be treating you, which matters more than any single product.

Before you arrive: what to bring and how to prepare

There is very little homework, but a few small things make the 30 minutes more useful:

  • Come with a clean or lightly made-up face if you can, so skin texture and tone are easy to see.
  • Know your medications and supplements. Injectors commonly ask about blood thinners, recent illness, allergies and pregnancy or breastfeeding, because these can affect timing or suitability.
  • Note any past treatments — what you had, roughly when, and how you felt about the result.
  • Bring a photo or two if it helps. An older picture of yourself can be more useful than a celebrity photo, because it shows what “you, rested” looks like.
  • Write down your top one or two concerns. It is easy to forget them once you are in the chair.

You do not need to know the names of treatments or how many units you might need. Working that out is the point of the visit.

What happens during the 30 minutes

Every consultation is a conversation rather than a script, but most follow a similar shape.

1. Your goals, in your words

Kirstin starts by asking what you notice and what you would like to change — and, just as importantly, what you do not want to change. Plenty of first-time clients say some version of “I just don’t want to look done.” That is a perfectly good goal, and it shapes everything that follows.

2. A quick health history

Expect a few questions about your health, medications and past treatments. This is standard for any medical aesthetic treatment and helps make sure a plan is appropriate for you, or that it waits until the timing is right.

3. Looking at your face at rest and in motion

Your face is assessed both still and while you talk, smile, frown and raise your brows. Movement shows which lines come from muscle activity, which is the territory of neurotoxin, and stillness shows where volume or skin quality has changed, which is where filler, Sculptra, PRF or microneedling may come in.

4. Your options, explained plainly

You will hear which treatments could address your concerns, what each one can realistically do, how long results typically last and what recovery looks like. Sometimes the honest answer is a small, conservative step. Sometimes it is “not yet.” Both are useful answers.

5. A written plan and honest pricing

You leave with a written plan and clear pricing, with no obligation to book anything. If more than one treatment makes sense, the plan shows how they can be sequenced over time rather than all at once.

Good to know: a consultation is not a sales appointment. There is no deposit, nothing is charged online, and you are never asked to commit on the spot. Taking the plan home to think about it is completely normal.

Treatments that may come up

The Babe Den offers a short, focused menu, so the conversation stays clear. Here is what you might discuss and where pricing starts:

TreatmentAppointmentPrice
Full Face Consultation30 minFree
Neurotoxin (Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau)20 minStarting at $280
Dermal Filler1 hrStarting at $800
Sculptra1 hrStarting at $700
PRF Injections1 hr$500
Microneedling1 hr$400

For neurotoxin, most first-timers treating three areas land between $280 and $440, and results typically last three to four months. If you are weighing volume options, our guide to Sculptra vs. dermal filler is a helpful read before your visit, and the Botox cost guide for Carlsbad explains how units and areas add up.

Questions worth asking

A good consultation should leave you feeling informed, not rushed. These questions tend to get the most useful answers:

  • What do you see as the main cause of the thing that bothers me?
  • What would you do first, and what could wait?
  • What will this realistically change, and what won’t it change?
  • How long does the result typically last, and when would I come back?
  • What does recovery look like, and is there anything I should avoid before or after?
  • What is the total cost of the plan, not just the first appointment?

It is also fair to ask who performs the treatment. At The Babe Den the answer is always the same: Kirstin Vail, RN, a licensed aesthetic nurse injector working with medical oversight from a Carlsbad-based supervising physician.

After your consultation: what happens next

There are three common paths, and all of them are fine.

  • You book a treatment. You pay at the appointment, and you can reschedule for free with 24 hours’ notice. Treatments over $300 can be paid over time through Cherry or Advance Care with a soft credit check.
  • You plan around your calendar. Neurotoxin reaches full effect in about two weeks, and microneedling is scheduled at least two weeks apart from neurotoxin, so timing around an event or a trip is part of the plan.
  • You wait. Many people simply want to understand their options first. The plan will still make sense when you are ready.

If you do go ahead, every plan comes with written aftercare. With injectables, minor swelling or tenderness for about 24 hours is common; with microneedling, expect two to three days of pink skin. Neurotoxin clients also get a complimentary two-week check to review the result.
